Recounting the port call at Walvis Bay, Nambia on Day 90

2014-04-04_093710_12144We arrived at Walvis Bay, Namiba on the morning of April 4th. I really did not do much here. I took the shuttle bus to downtown, bought a Guide Book of Nambia and walked through the town around the Bay to The Raft- a restaurant on stilts just south of the ship. I tried to take close-up pictures of birds and flamingos with a telephoto lens, but I did not realize that I had a polarizing filter on the lens which caused the photos to be distorted at the 20o mm range. Others from the ship either took a tour of the dunes or toured the town of Swankopmund – a village a few miles away founded by the Germans.

The Bernhard Nordcamp Centre Youth Choir (an orphanage the Amsterdam sponsors) performed that afternoon before we sailed away. The Sail Away party – an authentic Fruenhschoppen- a celebration of beer, food and life including various Nambian draft beers. We were on our way to St. Helena’s.
