Days 19-21 Sailing to Pitcairn Island

(attempted to post Jan 24th) After 2 days of sailing and another formal dinner we arrived at Pitcairn Island. This is the island where in 1789, the mutineers of the HMAV Bounty settled to escape the British. The island today is a protectorate of the UK and the only Pacific British Overseas Territory today. Since the landings are difficult, it is impractical to land any large craft in Bounty Bay. There is a steep road that goes from Bounty Bay to the top of the island and the only town, Adamstown. The population is less that 50 people. Since we could not disembark on the island, the islanders came to the ship in a Pitcairn longboat. 45 islanders came aboard for a few hours to sell their goods – Pitcairn Honey, tee shirts and hats and  postcards. I mailed my Easter Island and Pitcairn postcards from here. They will probably arrive in May.  We had a small sail away party on the aft Lido Deck. They everything went back to the ‘’”at sea” routine, including trivial and wine tasting, and finished off the day with a formal dinner that night. Next,  on to Papeete, Tahiti and the Society Islands!
